This has been my go-to pet store for years. We bought our ball python here a few years ago, and are back every week or so to get him a mouse. It could be a little cleaner, but the employees and very helpful and seem to know what they are doing.
Fish all looked unhealthy. I saw dead fish in some of the tanks. The bettas all looked nearly dead, and they had many on display to buy in "full setups" that were little containers of less than a gallon of water, with no heater or filter.
Friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of products. All of the critters for sale seem happy and healthy.
Prices are higher than average. Love being able to see all the animals for sale. Wish they'd allow more customer interaction with the birds. I have had several visits where the employee didn't look comfortable handling the birds and I had to show them there was nothing to fear. Lose the heavy gloves when handling the birds... they're not hawks! Those gloves scare most birds. Maybe management should do better training or select employees with bird experience. If the employees handle the birds correctly they will make better pets as it will be easier for the bird be handled by others.
Absolutely horrible to their fish. I don't think the workers or management have EVER done more than maybe 5 minutes of research on the animals they carry.
Pretty large store with many options. Some prices are really good, others are a little high. You just have to know what you're going in for and how much you're willing to pay.
Knowing now that Pet World supports such a cruel and unnecessary practice, I will NEVER be back to this or any location. It's disgusting.
They also had a tank of dyed African clawed frogs. For those who don't know, these frogs are inhumanely injected with toxic dye to turn them different colors, only for aesthetic appeal. It's incredibly harmful, especially since frogs have such sensitive skin, and many of them die during the process, which is similar to tattooing. The ones that don't die immediately are left very sickly and will most likely live nowhere near their normal lifespan, which is 15+ years.
